1 Who's who on Tue Sep 30, 2008 1:50 pm

I only joined this morning, but after looking around, I thought it might be nice to learn who's who, and how we're related to the field.

I'll go ahead and start by introducing myself.

I'm Paul Lammertsma, a master student in GMT. Presently, I'm doing my experimentation project on "Dynamic peephole navigation using camera-based scene analysis" under Wolfgang Huerst. I also occasionally meet with Remco Veltkamp and Peter Werkhoven.

My project is focused mobile devices equipped with user-facing cameras. I have recorded the movements of 15 test subjects in the motion capture lab along with the video and accelerometer data of a Nokia N95 while several movements are made. I am trying to interpret the video data in such a way that the physical motion of the device in space can be approximated from either the video only, or a combination of video and accelerometer data.

Perhaps I will write a topic with experimental results when I feel ready to present them. Presently I have posted this topic (targeting a specific question about quaternions) with more information.

Other than that, I am a PC game enthusiast. I especially enjoy MMOFPS such as Battlefield and Unreal Tournament, though in all honesty I'm not particularly good at them.

Good idea. Wink

I'm Philip Barkhudarov, GMT student. I'm working with Aycan Adal right now on our experimentation project, regarding the intelligent automated classification of music, by mood, composer/artist, and genre. We're using an existing framework that statistically analyzes music for certain features, and then trains an array of learning algorithms to classify the music based on those features. We're hoping to improve this system by adding new features. But we're also developing a new system, based on neural networks, which will skip the statistical feature step and simply give the music directly to a neural network. With proper training, the NN should work out what's what on its own.

I'm planning on doing my thesis also in AI and music, but hopefully at the more advanced level of actual composition. Ideally, in addition to the coolness of just producing "artificial" music, it'll be able to produce parametrized music on-the-fly in a game environment (parametrized with respect to pacing, tension, emotion, and so on).

I am admin.

I have no other name. I am the collective consciousness whose parts are not significant to its ultimate being. I started uugmt forum initiative hoping to provide a platform for knowledge sharing in all aspects, be it social, professional or occasional, between the subjects of Utrecht University's GMT master program.

I seek to treat all posts equally and just so that it may provide an enjoyable environment for those who utilize this forum.

I hate Casino spam mail and am skeptic about serious gaming, however I love all games equally for each provides a new perspective for the gaming scene.

I am an avid fan of cyberpunk sub-culture, and in addition to my obvious motives I seek to enlighten people about the upcoming singularity and our prospective A.I. overlords by organizing cyberpunk movie nights.

I hope that the forum will be used responsibly and wisely by its members and that it will help the gaming and media technologies community in many aspects.

Cheers.

Hey all,
I am Aycan Adal, also a GMT master student. I am working on my project as well for the moment which Phil mentioned above. I am also interested in studying automated music generation in games.
I am a MMORPG fan, WoW especially. The thing I love about MMORPGs is that how good they can be depends much on the social environment that will build up after the game is launched. And they try to implement some kind of social structure, some system that makes sure things are OK among players, fights are minimum, players can interact with each other in a way intended by the designers. I believe this can be related or integrated to real life administration issues.
Cheers ppl:P

Hi y'all,
I am erhan turel, a GMT student, trying to do his experimentation project with frank dignum on agent programming. I did my bachelors in virginia tech computer sciences program. Worked a while in istanbul on social networking websites and online gis data visualisations etc, and came here. I am a rabid fan of old blackisle games such as torment and fallout series. I was a story writer for RPG scenarios in high school Smile Apart from making plans to take over the world with my agents, I am trying to come up with a cyberpunk game with a decent story. You can find me in deviantart.com under the same nickname as well. Take care.
