Hi folks,

I'm using Game Maker 7 for the Game Design course. This is the first time I've ever used GM, and to be honest, I've found so many things that just seem wrong that I can't keep it to myself. Before I storm to yoyogames and/or Mark Overmars I'd like to hear your opinion. Here is what I found, in no particular order:

When trying out code I just edited, I first have to close the code editor. No code editor I've ever seen requires this. This specifically happens when editing ...

Upon my recent visit to Pascal's house I was glad to see and appreciate some oof his works. From what I can infer and probably even conclude, he is a very talented film maker. It has also come to a fact that we at GMT are meeting more often than usual, hence I personally feel that a movie at the end of the Masters would be the perfect icing on the cake. So, I was curious to know if it is possible to possibly catch up on a near weekend and discuss on a possible script and come up with a movie ...

Fallout3 is an abomination unto the gaming market. Captivating at first and appetizing with its references to its predecessors, the game's entertainment value as well as content plunges down a dark hole into the depressing boredom of "who do I have to shoot now?" As the game progresses the player comes into the realization of the things which he chose to ignore for the epic reputation of the series: the story is appallingly uninteresting and game mechanics are nauseating.

guess what i think is missing from:

YES! the link to this forum.

I think it has good rulez and decent moderators who can inspect the posts. So why not officially announce it. Even for future and past GMT students!

The strict rule for not posting code from homework projects is a key to faculty approval I guess.

Let me know what you think and also who should we write to.

a picture I happened upon reddit about how fallout fans see fallout 3. I think it also reflects a common blight that has settled on the industry.

It is supposed to be the golden ages of game development and all we are seeing are hyped up sequels, marketing pitches and empty promises. Game design elements are overlooked and somewhere along the road FPS started meaning "immersion". Who's gonna stop this travesty?

Seeing as how there's a lot of gaming elements in our study (and our shared passions, undoubtedly), maybe some would appreciate a place to put the somewhat less serious business, like nostalgic/funny/recognizable gaming references/links, without having to worry about interfering with the serious GMT related topics?

I am planning to organize a cyberpunk movie day in BBL. We can borrow a class room, get some drinks and utilize the awesomeness that is "projectors" to fully immerse ourselves to some random futuristic dystopia.

Of course I have no idea if such a thing is possible or not. So anyone who has the knowledge whom to contact or where to organize and when to gather please reply here so we can set up a date to gather.

Hi All,

I recommend you to check out http://www.happypenguin.org/ for those who wanna design \ play games built on Linux platform.

I am focusing on the game cave9. Required some initial tuning up before kick starting the game and I just got it working a while ago. Now digging more into the src. As for the game it involves flying a ship through an endless tunnel after realising that the breaks have stopped working !!

Its a small game and relatively easy in terms of understanding ...
